Jaun Elia was born as Syed Sibt-e-Asghar Naqvi [3] on 14 December 1931 in Amroha, British India. His father, Shafiq Elia, was an astronomer and astronomer fluent in Arabic, English, Persian, Hebrew, and Sanskrit, and was accompanied by leading scholars such as Bertrand Russell. [5] She was the youngest of her siblings. President Amrohvi was his older brother. Indian film director Kamal Amrohi was his first cousin. [6]
Described as a wise child, he was originally taught at the Syed-ul-Madaris in Amroha, a madrassah associated with Darul Uloom Deoband, despite his Shia family. [7]
Being a Communist, Elijah opposed India's divisions. [8] Elijah once remarked in Pakistan that "this was the evil of the Aligarh boys". [9] [10] [11] However, he eventually moved to Pakistan in 1957, and decided to stay in Karachi. The poet Pirzada Qasim said:
