John Wick (film)

John Wick is an exciting 2014 American neo-noir film directed by Chad Stahelski, in his first directing book, and written by Derek Kolstad. Starring Keanu Reeves in the lead role, Michael Nyqvist, Alfie Allen, Adrianne Palicki, Bridget Moynahan, Dean Winters, Ian McShane, John Leguizamo, and Willem Dafoe. It is the first installment in John Wick's franchise. The story revolves around John Wick wanting men to break into his house, steal his old car and kill his puppy, which was the last gift he gave her to his recently deceased wife. [6]

Chad Stahelski and David Leitch directed the film together, although only Stahelski was honored. [1] Kolstad had completed screenplay in 2012 and also upgraded Thunder Road Pictures. The film is produced by Basil Iwanyk of Thunder Road Pictures, Leitch, Eva Longoria, and Michael Witherill. It marks the beginning of Stahelski and Leitch's directing team as a team after many different credits as second unit directors and stunt coordinators. They previously worked with Reeves as a double stunt in the Matrix trilogy. [8]

Stahelski and Leitch's style of fighting scenes drew their interest in anime [9] and martial arts films. [10] The film used martial artists [11] and gun fu techniques [12] from the Hong Kong action movie. [13] The film also honors works by John Woo's The Killer, Jean-Pierre Melville's Le Cercle Rouge and Le Samouraï, [14] Point Blank by John Boorman, and Spaghetti Western films. [15]

The film met with some positive reviews, with critics calling it one of Reves' best films and the best action film of 2014. It has generated $ 86 million worldwide compared to the production budget of $ 20–30 million. The sequel, John Wick: Chapter 2, was released in 2017, and met with the same critical and commercial success.
